Minnesota Teacher Dr. Heather Abrahamson Insults Student During Heated Classroom Clash Over Renee Good’s Death

A veteran Minnesota high school teacher, Dr. Heather Abrahamson, sparked controversy after she insulted a student during a tense classroom argument over the death of anti-ICE protester Renee Good, according to video footage circulating online.

The incident occurred at Becker High School, where Abrahamson, a social studies teacher with 32 years of experience, became visibly agitated while discussing the actions of ICE agent Jonathan Ross in the January 7 Minneapolis protest that resulted in Good’s death.

In the video, Abrahamson can be seen standing close to a student, repeatedly interrupting him as he argued that Ross “had a split second” to respond.

“No, he had — no. I’m not going to argue with you,” she says, before the student points out, “You’re arguing right now.”

Abrahamson then gestured dramatically while insisting Ross “was not in danger,” prompting the student to respond, “Just because you’re yelling doesn’t mean you’re winning an argument.” The teacher eventually walked away and delivered a pointed insult:

“Yeah, just because you’re alive doesn’t mean you’re intelligent.”

The confrontation sparked whispers among other students, one of whom asked, “You just gonna take that, man? She just called you stupid,” before the video ended.

Background on Abrahamson

Dr. Abrahamson holds a doctorate in social studies curriculum from the University of Minnesota. She has taught at Becker Schools for more than three decades and has been involved in school activities beyond the classroom, including advising the Gender and Sexuality Alliance club.

This is not the first time Abrahamson has publicly expressed disagreement with political issues at Becker Schools. In 2022, she criticized a school board decision to hear from groups with differing perspectives after a state LGBT advocacy organization raised concerns at a school meeting, calling the notion of “another side” to human rights incomprehensible.

Context on the Incident

Renee Good, 37, died during a violent protest in Minneapolis in January after her vehicle allegedly struck ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who reportedly suffered internal injuries. The Trump administration has defended Ross’s actions, claiming he had no choice but to open fire in self-defense.

Neither Abrahamson, the Becker High School principal, nor the district superintendent immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the classroom incident.
