Waco police are investigating a disturbing case of child abuse after Quinton Owens was identified as the suspect in the assault of a 3-year-old boy at the Barron Branch Apartments, authorities confirmed.
The Waco Police Department (WPD) launched the investigation after a video circulated on Facebook showing what police described as a “horrendous assault” involving a young child. According to WPD, the suspect later turned himself in and is currently in police custody.
The incident was reported on Friday, January 16, around 5:30 p.m., when a witness contacted police at The Legend Apartments on Corporation Parkway, near Bagby Avenue and Loop 340.
Officers responding to the scene obtained video doorbell footage that allegedly shows the suspect violently assaulting the child.
“Officers located video doorbell footage of the suspect violently beating the 3-year-old boy,” the Waco Police Department said in a statement.
In the video, the child can be heard crying while the suspect speaks to him and forcibly pulls him upward by the neck and chin area, police said.
The child was transported to a local hospital, where doctors are evaluating him for potential injuries. Police confirmed that the suspect and the child know each other, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
The case is now being handled by WPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit.
“We do not take these investigations lightly and are committed to a full and thorough investigation of this crime,” the department stated.
Although police had not initially released the suspect’s identity, Quinton Owens has since been identified in connection with the investigation. Authorities have not yet announced formal charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
