Shin Tateyama Identified as Suspect in Oita Middle School Student Assault Case [VIDEO]

Authorities have identified Shin Tateyama as the student involved in an incident at Oita Municipal Daido Junior High School, in which a fellow student was repeatedly kicked, according to local reports.

A video allegedly showing the assault was posted on social media, drawing attention to the case. The footage, approximately one minute long, appears to show a student repeatedly striking another student at the school.

The Oita City Board of Education confirmed that they became aware of the post on the morning of January 8. Officials immediately began investigating, interviewing staff at the school where the incident occurred and examining the video to verify its authenticity.

Police, acting on information provided by the Board of Education, have also launched an investigation into the matter.

The Board of Education plans to hold a press conference on January 9 to provide further details on the incident and the actions being taken in response.

To protect student privacy, authorities are also considering requesting the removal of the video from social media.
