A devastating tragedy unfolded in Sulphur, Louisiana, on New Year’s Day after a mother was accused of fatally shooting her 1-year-old daughter inside the family home, authorities confirmed.

Kristin Bass, of Sulphur, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her infant daughter, Acelynn Moss. Police were called to the residence shortly after 8 p.m. on January 1 following reports of a shooting.

According to the child’s father, Bradley Moss, he heard a loud gunshot and rushed into the room, where he allegedly found Bass holding a firearm. Their baby, Acelynn, had been shot and was unresponsive.

Moss told investigators he feared the situation was not over. He said their older daughter cried out for help as Bass allegedly made statements that led him to believe she intended to shoot the second child as well.

“I almost lost two babies,” Moss said. “I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God.”

Authorities confirmed that the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services immediately took custody of the surviving child to ensure her safety.

Kristin Bass was taken into custody and formally charged with first-degree murder. Court records show her bond has been set at $10 million as the case moves forward through the legal system.
