Authorities say a suspect has been taken into custody following a double homicide that shocked a quiet residential community in Vass.
According to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2026, to a reported shooting at a home on Daphne Lane in the Woodlake neighborhood. Inside the residence, they discovered two adults — later identified as 28-year-old Katerina “Kate” Tovmash and 21-year-old Matthew Wade — deceased at the scene. Emergency responders pronounced both victims dead shortly after arrival.
Investigators say the suspect fled before officers arrived, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding community while detectives began gathering evidence. Authorities identified 25-year-old Fosnaugh, an Ohio resident, as the suspect and obtained warrants charging him with breaking and entering and two counts of murder.
Officials said they believed he had already left Moore County after the shooting and warned the public he should be considered armed and dangerous. He was believed to be driving a white 2018 Ford Mustang with a black front driver-side fender and possibly displaying Ohio plates.Later that afternoon, law enforcement confirmed Fosnaugh was arrested near Coshocton.
Investigators described the killings as an isolated incident involving individuals who knew one another and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Friends and community members say Tovmash, a Ukrainian refugee, was known for her caring nature and devotion to her younger sisters, who were reportedly inside the home during the attack. Wade, originally from Mississippi, served as a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg and was remembered as someone with big dreams and strong dedication to his family.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say additional details will be released as they become available.
