Woman Found Dead After Falling Through Ice at First Encounter Beach as Eastham Police Department Search for Missing Husband Following Cape Cod Incident

Authorities say a tragic accident unfolded in Eastham, where a woman died and her husband remains missing after both reportedly fell through ice while walking their dog near Bee’s River.

Police received a call shortly after 9 a.m. reporting a distressed, soaking-wet dog at the beach. When an officer arrived, he found a woman in the freezing water screaming for help after breaking through the ice. While attempting a rescue, the officer also fell in and was fully submerged. A second officer rushed in to assist but likewise broke through the ice, plunging into the water up to his waist. Both officers managed to pull themselves back to shore and were transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Officials have not released updates on their conditions.

Rescue teams launched a search for the woman and soon learned she had been walking with her husband and their dog before the incident. Investigators said evidence from the couple’s vehicle and home suggested the husband may have fallen through the ice before police arrived.

Dive crews later recovered the woman’s body beneath the ice shortly after 11 a.m. Her identity, along with her husband’s, has not yet been made public. First responders continue searching the area for the missing man as the investigation remains ongoing.
