A former ninth-grade teacher has surrendered to authorities after investigators alleged she engaged in inappropriate contact with a student.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 29-year-old Danielle Weaver turned herself in on the morning of Feb. 18 following warrants issued in connection with the case. She faces charges of child molestation and sexual assault by a teacher or other school authority. By late Wednesday evening, she had been released on bond, according to reporting from WALB.
Authorities say the investigation began after the Leesburg Police Department received allegations of inappropriate contact between a teacher and a student. The department requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which then secured arrest warrants for Weaver.
In a statement previously sent to parents, school officials said district leaders acted immediately once they became aware of the allegations, emphasizing that the staff member involved was no longer employed and that student safety remained their highest priority. Officials also confirmed that those directly affected were contacted and that the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
According to arrest records, Weaver’s bond was set at $50,000. Each charge carries a potential $25,000 fine. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the allegations, and the investigation remains ongoing.
