A man identified as Deandre X Givhan is speaking out on social media after he says he was seriously injured during an encounter with police in Grand Rapids earlier this year.
Givhan claims the incident occurred Jan. 5, 2026, when officers allegedly followed him from a relative’s home to a gas station, disabled his vehicle, and boxed him in with patrol cars. According to his account, he complied with commands and had his hands visible when a police K-9 was released and bit him in the face, causing severe injuries and permanent scarring. He says he is now seeking a civil rights attorney and is calling for public awareness and accountability.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed details of Givhan’s allegations, and no official statement about the specific incident has been released. His claims surfaced online amid heightened local attention following the recent fatal police shooting of Da’Quain Tre Johnson, which remains under investigation. Givhan referenced that case while urging others to share his story, saying he feels fortunate to have survived.
As of now, the circumstances surrounding Givhan’s encounter with police remain unverified, and it is unclear whether any formal complaint or legal action has been filed.
