Prosecutors have formally charged Dontae M. Brooks in connection with the Feb. 15 nightclub shooting that left two people dead — including Eboni Silas — and two others injured, authorities announced.
According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators identified Brooks using surveillance video from the scene along with DNA evidence recovered from a baseball cap. Following his arrest, he was charged with multiple serious offenses, including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, first- and second-degree assault, and weapons violations.
Police say the shooting occurred inside the nightclub and stemmed from an interaction that escalated into gunfire, striking four victims. Two victims died from their injuries, while the others survived, one reportedly with non-life-threatening wounds.
Officials are continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to submit anonymous tips to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
