Ebony McBean Arrested in Raleigh for Performing Unlicensed Dental Work, Taking Thousands from Patients

Raleigh police have arrested Ebony McBean, 42, for allegedly providing dental services without a license and defrauding patients out of thousands of dollars. McBean reportedly claimed to have 15 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant while operating her business, The Smiling Face Company, despite not being a registered dentist.

McBean was served a warrant on Friday, which had originally been issued in November 2025. She faces one count of practicing medicine without a license and three felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. She posted bond Saturday morning.

According to the arrest warrant, McBean performed dental work on multiple patients, charging amounts between $4,000 and $5,820 per case. In at least one instance, she installed braces valued at $5,820, even though she had no official dental credentials. Patients reported botched procedures, ongoing pain, and difficulty obtaining refunds or records.

Court records also indicate that McBean allegedly collaborated with Dr. Ramsey, who was already under probation, in running the unlicensed dental practice. Raleigh authorities say the scam left patients with substandard dental care and financial losses.

The North Carolina Medical Board confirms that McBean is not a licensed dentist, and authorities are warning the public to verify credentials before seeking dental services.

This case highlights the risks of unlicensed medical practitioners and the potential consequences for patients seeking care outside regulated professionals.
