A 26-year-old woman, Germiran Bryson, was arrested earlier this month after allegedly abandoning her dog at a Las Vegas airport ticket counter when she was unable to complete required travel paperwork for the animal, authorities said.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 11:40 p.m. on Feb. 2 inside the airport terminal. Airline staff told officers stationed nearby that Bryson had been instructed to complete online documentation to travel with her dog, described as a 2-year-old goldendoodle/mini-poodle, as a service animal. When she failed to finish the paperwork, she was denied a boarding pass.
Police said Bryson then left the dog behind at the counter and proceeded through security toward the departure gates.
Officers later located her in the D Gates area and questioned why she had left the animal. According to police, she replied that the airline would not allow the dog to fly and stated the animal had a tracking device, implying it could find its way back to her.
Authorities said she became hostile while being escorted back through the security checkpoint and was arrested on suspicion of animal abandonment and resisting arrest.
Security footage released by police shows airline staff speaking with Bryson while the dog remained secured near the counter. After she walked away, employees were seen checking on the animal. Body-camera video later captured officers confronting her at the gate and questioning why she left without the dog. She told them she was attempting to rebook her flight.
Police said airport staff and officers cared for the dog until Animal Protective Services took custody. After the required 10-day holding period passed without Bryson reclaiming the pet, the animal was transferred to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas.
