The FBI announced that a glove with DNA found near Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona home appears to match the gloves worn by the armed suspect seen in previously released Nest camera footage from the abduction site.
A spokesperson for the FBI confirmed that the glove “appears to match” the gloves worn by the individual caught on camera tampering with the front door Nest device on the morning of Guthrie’s disappearance. The glove was discovered in a field approximately two miles from her home, among roughly 16 gloves collected near the property during the investigation. Most of the gloves had been discarded by searchers.
The FBI emphasized that the suspected “match” is currently based on visual observation of the glove in the footage, rather than confirmed DNA results. Laboratory analysis on all collected gloves began Saturday, Feb. 14, and final forensic testing and database cross-checks are still pending.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her Tucson residence on the night of January 31. Her family reported her missing around noon on February 1. DNA evidence at the home that does not belong to Guthrie or her close contacts has already been confirmed, and blood matching her DNA was previously found on the exterior porch.
The suspect in the surveillance video is described as a male approximately 5’9”–5’10” tall with an average build, carrying a black 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack, according to the FBI’s Operational Technology Division’s forensic analysis. Authorities hope these details will help generate additional tips from the public.
The FBI has now offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or an arrest in connection with the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
