Leondra Nicole Accuses Mario Grier of Assault in Viral Video as Prosecutors Decline Charges Against Corrections Officer

Florida prosecutors have declined to file criminal charges against Mario Grier after a widely circulated home-surveillance video appeared to show him forcefully disciplining his 9-year-old stepdaughter in a driveway incident that sparked outrage online.

The allegations first gained attention when Leondra Nicole posted clips on social media claiming they showed Grier grabbing and throwing her niece onto a car before striking her. In her post, she described the girl as her “young, beautiful niece,” condemned the alleged actions as abusive, and called for accountability.

The footage spread rapidly across platforms, prompting viewers to contact agencies connected to Grier’s employment demanding an investigation. Authorities in Sanford confirmed officers took an initial report, interviewed family members, and forwarded the case to the State Attorney’s Office for Seminole County for review.

Prosecutors later announced they would not pursue charges. In a statement, they said Florida law requires that child-abuse allegations against a parent or stepparent involve conduct so excessive that it causes serious physical or mental injury. Investigators reported that a welfare check found no injuries to the child.

Officials added that state law and court precedents grant significant legal latitude to parents and stepparents when physically disciplining children, and they determined that standard was not met in this case.

Although criminal charges were declined, Grier’s employer, the Florida Department of Corrections, confirmed he was terminated on Feb. 17 following an internal review of the video and the public reaction.

Authorities have not released additional details, and no public statement from Grier has been issued.
