Body of Teen Qayyim Daniel Putra Rosli Recovered from Kallang River After Disappearance During Fishing Attempt

The body of a 13-year-old boy, Qayyim Daniel Putra Rosli, has been retrieved from the Kallang River after he was reported missing on Feb. 25 following an apparent accident while fishing.

According to his mother, Madam Siti, she received a call at about 5 p.m. that day informing her that Daniel had slipped into the river and vanished. She said her son had no fishing experience and was not a strong swimmer, making the circumstances especially distressing for the family.

Daniel had left home earlier that morning for school, and his mother recalled feeling uneasy when he unusually greeted her three times before departing. She later rushed from work to the scene near Upper Boon Keng Road, where she has since kept vigil with her two other sons. The family lives in Redhill, and she said she has limited support at home, noting her husband is currently in prison and her in-laws are unwell.

Rescue personnel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team conducted underwater search operations the evening of Feb. 25 but suspended efforts after 9 p.m. due to low visibility. Searches resumed the next morning.

A friend told AsiaOne that Daniel reportedly fell into the water while attempting to free a fishing line caught in a net. Another boy who tried to save him also fell in but was rescued, while Daniel was swept away by the current.

Police stated that preliminary investigations indicate no foul play is suspected.
