Lyric Latrice Farley, 19, University of West Georgia Student Shot and Killed by Ex-Boyfriend David Marc’Antony Powell

A Douglas County community is mourning the tragic loss of Lyric Latrice Farley, a 19-year-old University of West Georgia (UWG) student, who was shot and killed Saturday afternoon during an apparent dispute with her ex-boyfriend.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire near Kings Highway and Central Church Road in Douglasville. When officers arrived, they found Farley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Farley was a graduate of Carrollton High School and was described by loved ones as bright, kind, and full of promise.

Investigators worked through the night and into early Sunday morning to identify a suspect. Authorities later arrested David Marc’Antony Powell, 20, Farley’s former boyfriend. Powell allegedly fled the scene but was located around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Highway 5, according to 11Alive. He was taken into custody without incident.

Law enforcement officials said multiple vehicles were impounded and several firearms were seized as part of the investigation.

Powell was formally charged Monday with murder and aggravated assault. During his first court appearance, he was denied bond and remains in custody.

Speaking with 11Alive, Farley’s sister described Lyric as “very smart” with a “big heart,” and urged other women to be cautious about who they allow into their lives.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Douglas County investigators.
