The FBI has released surveillance images and video of an armed individual believed to be a “potential suspect” in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, as investigators continue searching for answers after a reported ransom deadline expired.
FBI Director Kash Patel shared four black-and-white images and video clips showing a masked, armed person standing in the doorway of Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, the day she was reported missing. Authorities believe Guthrie was taken against her will.
According to the FBI, the individual appears to have tampered with or removed the home’s surveillance equipment. Patel said investigators were able to recover the footage from residual data stored in backend systems after devices were damaged or removed.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to recover any images or video footage that may have been lost or corrupted,” Patel wrote in a statement.
Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance was first discovered when she failed to show up for church services, prompting concern from fellow parishioners. Since then, several media outlets have reported receiving purported ransom messages connected to the case, though authorities have not confirmed their authenticity. A Monday 5 p.m. ransom deadline reportedly passed without resolution.
The Guthrie family has publicly pleaded for help, releasing four videos on social media. In one emotional Instagram post on Feb. 9, Savannah Guthrie asked the public to assist investigators.
“We believe our mom is still out there,” she said. “Law enforcement is working tirelessly, around the clock, trying to bring her home. She was taken, and we don’t know where, and we need your help.”
As of Feb. 10, authorities say no suspects or persons of interest have been officially identified, and they are asking anyone who recognizes the individual in the released images or has information related to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to contact law enforcement immediately.
