Nasreen Atassi, a teacher in the San Diego Unified School District, has been fired after posting a video online containing antisemitic claims alleging that Israelis steal human organs, sparking backlash from community members and advocacy groups.
According to reports, Atassi shared a video in which she stated that Israelis “steal kidneys, livers, and eyes” and also claimed that Israel “steals protests, like they always steal from people,” comments she made while discussing Jewish American support for demonstrations by Iranian dissidents in the United States.
The video quickly circulated on social media, prompting complaints from local Jewish organizations and residents. Members of the House of Israel community in Balboa Park documented the video and forwarded evidence to authorities. Dr. Halevi Feldman, a board member of the organization, said the group tracks antisemitic incidents and reports them when they occur.
Following the backlash, the school district terminated Atassi’s employment within 24 hours of the video surfacing online. Community members also contacted officials directly and publicly tagged authorities on social media to demand action.
“There’s no chance we would allow such a person to enter classrooms,” one local Israeli resident told media outlets.
Feldman noted that while antisemitic incidents no longer surprise some community members, they believe it is important to respond rather than remain silent, particularly when the statements come from someone working in education.
