Teddi Page, a former teacher at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged prohibited sexual conduct involving a student, just days after starting her job at the all-girls Catholic school.
The New Orleans Police Department confirmed that Page, 29, was arrested on Thursday after the school reported concerns to authorities. She appeared in court on Friday, where a judge set her bond at $15,000. While prosecutors requested a protective order, the judge denied that request but granted a stay-away order involving the student’s mother.
According to court documents, the alleged relationship involved a female student and reportedly included multiple sexual encounters. Investigators say the student told authorities the incidents occurred at several locations, including Page’s home and inside a vehicle parked behind a restaurant. During the magistrate hearing, attorneys discussed allegations that initially included a kiss, but the affidavit states the relationship went further.
The Academy of the Sacred Heart said it acted immediately once concerns were brought forward. In a statement, the school said Page was escorted off campus, her employment was terminated, and the matter was referred to law enforcement. School officials emphasized that student safety is a top priority and that all employees are required to undergo background checks and provide references prior to being hired.According to the school, Page’s background check and references were favorable and revealed no prior concerns. Head of School Gretchen Zibilich Kane said the institution is fully cooperating with authorities and is providing counseling and resources to students who may be affected.
Although the student involved is reportedly 18 years old and the relationship was described in court as consensual, legal experts note that Louisiana law still prohibits sexual relationships between educators and students due to the inherent power imbalance. Loyola University law professor Dane Ciolino explained that even when a student is a legal adult, the law is designed to protect them from exploitation by those in positions of authority.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
