Authorities and volunteers are continuing a large-scale search for 21-year-old college student Trenton Massey, who disappeared during severe winter conditions after leaving a bar early Sunday morning.
According to the Marquette Police Department, surveillance footage captured Massey shortly before 3:20 a.m. appearing disoriented and struggling to walk. Temperatures were around 20°F, and the area had been hit by days of heavy snowfall and blizzard-like conditions. Investigators believe alcohol consumption combined with extreme cold may have contributed to his condition before he vanished.
Search efforts have drawn hundreds of volunteers, including fellow students. One student who saw Massey that night said the weather was so severe he personally got lost walking home, describing it as an “absolute blizzard.”
Police have focused attention near the Lake Superior shoreline after a hole was discovered in the ice, though officials have not confirmed whether it is connected to the disappearance. Residents and business owners in a designated search zone have been asked to review security footage from about 3:25 a.m. onward and check their properties, vehicles, and outbuildings for any sign of Massey. He was last seen wearing an olive green and black jacket with dark pants. The investigation remains active.
