A Marion County, Florida family of four was tragically found dead in their Ocala home on Friday, Feb. 6, in what authorities suspect was a carbon monoxide poisoning incident.
The victims have been identified as Yohan Sanchez, 33, his wife Rebeca Santos, 37, and their children, Michael Melendez, 15, and Samuel Sanchez, 2.
Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:25 p.m. to the home on Banyan Track Way for a welfare check. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the two adults and two children deceased inside.
Investigators said the deaths are suspected to be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, though the official cause of death is pending confirmation from the medical examiner. Authorities stated no foul play is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing.
Yohan Sanchez’s sister, Noel Sanchez, launched a verified GoFundMe fundraiser, sharing that her brother had “proudly served as a member of the United States Coast Guard.” She wrote, “Our family is grieving this unimaginable tragedy, and this fundraiser is to help cover funeral expenses and support our family during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your prayers, compassion, and support.”
Another fundraiser noted that the family hopes to bring their loved ones’ bodies back to Boston.
Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy. Alexander James told NBC affiliate WESH, “This is a loving community… They were real nice people and had lived in the house for about 10 months.”
