Brett Richardson Killed Wife Kasie Richardson and 6-Year-Old Son in Youngsville Area Murder-Suicide, Deputies Say

Authorities in Lafayette Parish say a father fatally shot his wife and young son before taking his own life in what investigators are describing as a double murder-suicide in a neighborhood outside Youngsville.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Sunday afternoon at a home in the 500 block of Braxton Drive in an unincorporated area of the parish.

Three Family Members Found Dead Inside Home

Investigators say 36-year-old Brett Richardson shot and killed his 33-year-old wife, Kasie Richardson, along with their 6-year-old son, before turning the gun on himself.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence after receiving reports that three individuals were deceased inside the home. When officers arrived, they discovered all three victims and pronounced them dead at the scene.

Authorities said no one else was inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

 

Quiet Neighborhood Left in Shock

Neighbors say the tragedy has shaken the normally quiet community. One neighbor who lives nearby said the family largely kept to themselves but appeared to live a normal life.

“He was a man of small words,” the neighbor said. “I never heard any arguing. I don’t know the full dynamic of that family, but for something like this to happen all of a sudden—it’s unusual.”

The neighbor added that the couple’s young son was often seen playing outside and would greet people walking by, sometimes stopping to pet the neighbor’s dog.

Community Searching for Answers

Residents in the area say they are devastated by the news and are struggling to understand what may have led to the tragic incident.

“My concern is what happened, why, what led to this,” the neighbor said. “Nobody around here expected something like this.”

Authorities have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting.
