A man from Roseburg has been arrested after authorities say he confessed to killing his infant son and disposing of the child’s body in a nearby river.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Jared Scott Jeremy Stoller is facing first-degree murder and first-degree abuse of a corpse charges in connection with the death of his 11-month-old son, Jaxson.
Father Initially Reported Child Missing
Authorities said the investigation began on March 15, 2026, shortly before 10 a.m., when Stoller called 911 claiming his baby had gone missing from a hotel room at the Relax Inn in nearby Sutherlin.
Officers from the Sutherlin Police Department responded to the call and quickly determined that the circumstances surrounding the report were suspicious.
As a result, the Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated to assist with the investigation.
Confession During Interview With Detectives
Investigators later interviewed Stoller, who eventually admitted that he had killed his son days earlier in Roseburg.
According to authorities, Stoller told detectives he disposed of the child’s body in the South Umpqua River.
Search teams then launched an operation to locate the child’s remains.
Infant’s Body Recovered From River
Divers with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, assisted by boats from the Oregon State Police, located Jaxson’s body shortly before 6 p.m. the same day.
Authorities said the body was recovered from the river near the 3500 block of Old Melrose Road in Roseburg.
The child’s remains were turned over to the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials say an autopsy is expected to be conducted in the coming days.

The investigation is being led by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Douglas County Major Crimes Team, which includes investigators from the Roseburg Police Department and the Oregon State Police, working alongside the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Additional support has also been provided by Douglas County Search and Rescue, the Winston Police Department, the Myrtle Creek Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division.
