Corey Alexander Boyd Identified as Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Michael “Loc Mike” Owens Jr. in Mitchell Heights

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in the Mitchell Heights neighborhood of Memphis.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), Corey Alexander Boyd has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Michael Owens Jr., also known as “Loc Mike.”

Police say the shooting happened just before 1 p.m. on Sunday on Buchanan Avenue, near Jackson Avenue, in the Mitchell Heights area. Officers responded to the scene and found that Owens had been shot.

Authorities later confirmed that Owens died from his injuries.

Investigators identified Boyd as the suspect in the case. Law enforcement officials later located him and took him into custody during a traffic stop connected to the ongoing murder investigation.

Boyd is currently facing first-degree murder charges, according to MPD. As of now, it has not been confirmed whether he will be granted bond or when he is expected to make his first court appearance.

The investigation into the deadly shooting remains ongoing.
