Stephenville, Texas — Authorities are investigating a deadly crash in Stephenville in which a vehicle left the roadway and struck a home early Sunday morning, killing two people and leading to criminal charges against an 18-year-old driver.
According to the Stephenville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:26 a.m. on March 22 to the 200 block of North Ollie Street near West Green Street after reports that a vehicle had crashed into a residence.
When emergency crews arrived, they found multiple injured individuals at the scene. Two air ambulances were initially requested but later canceled as victims were transported by the Stephenville Fire Department and Erath County EMS to Texas Health Resources in Stephenville.
Despite lifesaving efforts, an adult female and a juvenile male were both pronounced dead from their injuries.Police identified the driver as 18-year-old Gracie Yates of Santa Anna. She was taken into custody and charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide.
Yates is currently being held at the Erath County Jail on a combined bond of $29,000.
Officials said the crash occurred near a curve in the roadway behind a nearby commercial area. The exact circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway remain under active investigation.
The Stephenville Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Game Wardens, and the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
