A 20-year-old University of Alabama student who went missing during a spring break trip to Barcelona has been found dead, with authorities believing his death may have been the result of drowning.
Body Found Near Port Olímpic
James “Jimmy” Gracey was discovered by police divers near Port Olímpic on Thursday, according to Mossos d’Esquadra. His body was later formally identified, and his family was notified.
In a statement, Gracey’s family expressed gratitude for the support they received during the search:
“We are so grateful for the kindness and concern that has been shown for our family during this incredibly difficult time… We will share updates if and when we’re able.”
Last Seen After Night at Shôko Nightclub
Gracey was last seen around 3 a.m. Tuesday at Shôko Club, a popular beachfront nightclub in the La Barceloneta area. He had been out with friends but reportedly chose to stay longer, eventually becoming separated from his group.
His disappearance sparked a frantic search after he failed to return.
