Community tensions are rising in Vicco following the death of Emilynn Clark, a 16-year-old student at Perry County Central High School, who was killed in an ATV crash Saturday night.
According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. when an ATV left the roadway and went over an embankment. Clark, who was riding as a passenger, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Sheriff Joe Engle confirmed that the ATV was being driven by Clark’s 16-year-old best friend. Because the driver is a juvenile, her name has not been released. She has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, and authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor. A blood sample collected at the scene has been submitted for testing.
Two adult men were also passengers on the ATV at the time of the crash. One was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Officials say additional charges against the two men are pending as the investigation continues. Deputies are also reviewing surveillance footage from a local business to determine where the alcohol may have been purchased.
The ATV involved in the crash has been identified as belonging to Noah Back. Authorities have not confirmed whether Back was present during the incident. However, online discussions have intensified in the days following the tragedy, with claims circulating that Back has been reporting certain social media accounts amid public commentary about the case.
Law enforcement has not indicated that Back faces charges at this time, and officials emphasize that the investigation remains active. Future charges in the case could include vehicular homicide or manslaughter, pending consultation with the local Commonwealth’s Attorney and possible grand jury review.
Sheriff Engle has urged the public to remain patient and allow the families involved space to grieve while investigators complete a thorough review of the circumstances.
Clark’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses. She is remembered by loved ones as an intelligent young woman with an infectious smile who enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball. Her passing has deeply impacted the Vicco and Perry County communities.
This remains an open and ongoing investigation.
