Albany, Georgia — A late-night drag racing crash in Albany left a 26-year-old man and his 4-year-old son dead, along with two others injured, according to the Albany Police Department. Two suspects have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
The fatal crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 1900 block of Krug Street, police said. Authorities believe the crash happened during an illegal street racing incident involving multiple vehicles.
Police identified the victims as Rickey Thomas Jr., 26, and his 4-year-old son, Kaise Thomas, both of whom were killed at the scene. Two additional individuals involved in the crash were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the crash occurred when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and struck multiple vehicles involved in the incident.
Following the investigation, police arrested 24-year-old Brandon King and charged him with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, and racing on a highway or exhibition of speed or acceleration.
Authorities also identified a second driver, 25-year-old Jacob Daniels Jr., who initially fled the scene but later returned and was taken into custody. He has also been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, along with racing on a highway or exhibition of speed or acceleration and reckless driving.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the crash.
