The Tragic Incident
According to Memphis Police, the fatal incident took place around 4 p.m. on Thursday in Frayser at the intersection of Signal Street and Whitney Avenue. Footage of the event shows Kenai Thomas kicking his basketball into the street, and shortly after, he followed it into the westbound lane of traffic on Whitney Avenue. At that moment, a Chrysler 200, driven by Kenyunte W. Goss, struck the young boy.
Goss, who remained at the scene following the collision, was later arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and financial responsibility violations. After the crash, emergency responders rushed Kenai to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Tayvo Muney’s Apology
Following the accident, Tayvo Muney, who is reportedly the individual that attempted to administer CPR on Kenai, posted an emotional apology on social media.
“I know sorry can’t bring back baby boy, but if I could trade spots with that precious baby, I would in a heartbeat,” Muney wrote, deeply reflecting on the tragedy. “I healed him for 3 minutes, screaming to the top of my lungs, rocking him, praying that he made it. I was the last thing that baby saw before he closed his eyes forever—not his mom, dad, or family member—me, the person who did this.”
In the post, Muney expressed not only grief but also guilt, as she felt responsible for being involved in the final moments of Kenai’s life.
