Brynleigh Pledger, 7, Dies from Injuries After Lawrence County Crash That Killed Twin Sister Bryleigh, Mother Ashley Hagood, and Brother Bryant Ballew

Brynleigh Pledger, the 7-year-old girl critically injured in a devastating Lawrence County car crash that claimed the lives of her twin sister, mother, and brother, has died from her injuries, her family confirmed Wednesday.

The tragic update comes days after the April 11 collision at the intersection of Highways 157 and 24 near Moulton, Alabama. Authorities said the crash involved a Chevrolet Suburban carrying the family and a Ford F-150.

At the scene, Brynleigh’s twin sister, Bryleigh Pledger, 7, and her brother, Bryant Ballew, 13, were pronounced dead. Their mother, Ashley Hagood, 33, later died from her injuries at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur.

Brynleigh had been fighting for her life since the crash, undergoing surgery and battling severe brain swelling. In updates shared by her father, Tyler Pledger, she was described as awaiting a “miracle.” However, the family later confirmed that her injuries were too severe to overcome.

In a heartfelt statement, Tyler and Miranda Pledger shared the painful decision facing the family.

“Our baby girl will soon be joining her mommy, brother, and twin sister Bryleigh… Her sweet little body is done. She has fought so incredibly hard, but the damage to her little brain has taken its toll. Her prognosis is unsurvivable.”

The family added that life-sustaining measures were the only thing keeping Brynleigh alive, and they could not continue prolonging her suffering.

Despite their unimaginable grief, the family expressed gratitude for the support they have received and shared that Brynleigh would become an organ donor—her final act of generosity to help others.

They described their pain as “indescribable” but found comfort in faith and the belief that the twins are reunited.

Brynleigh’s brother, Bentley Pledger, 10, survived the crash and remains in serious condition at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham.

The Lawrence County crash has left a community mourning the loss of multiple members of one family, as loved ones continue to rally around those still fighting to recover.
