Julianne Burgess, Laura Brysacz, and Toddler Piper McCullough Identified in Fatal Greer House Fire, Coroner Says

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified three victims who died following a house fire in Greer on Thursday night, including two women and a three-year-old child.

According to officials, the victims are 57-year-old Julianne Marie Burgess, 70-year-old Laura Ellen Brysacz, and Brysacz’s great-granddaughter, three-year-old Piper Rubi McCullough. Burgess and Brysacz were residents of the home.

Emergency crews with the Boiling Springs Fire District were dispatched to a residence on Sugar Creek Lane around 9:30 p.m., where they encountered a significant structure fire. Despite firefighters’ response, three people were later confirmed dead.

The coroner’s office determined that Burgess and McCullough died from inhalation of products of combustion and thermal burns sustained during the fire. The official manner of death for all three victims remains pending as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities say the origin of the blaze is still under investigation. However, preliminary findings suggest the home may not have had functioning smoke detectors, which could have allowed the fire to spread undetected.

Fire officials noted that neighbors did not report hearing any smoke alarms, and none were audible when crews arrived at the scene.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office, along with fire investigators and law enforcement, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly Greer house fire. Additional details are expected as the investigation progresses.
