A man was killed in a late-night crash involving a truck and a motorcycle near Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, authorities said.
The fatal collision occurred around midnight Thursday near the intersection of Airline Highway and Hanks Drive. Emergency crews from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office responded after reports of a serious crash.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Jarren Williams. According to authorities, Williams suffered fatal injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by first responders. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Officials have not released details on what led to the collision or whether factors such as speed, impairment, or distracted driving were involved. The scene was secured for several hours as investigators documented evidence and reconstructed the events leading to the crash.
Remembering Jarren Williams
Williams was a lifelong Baton Rouge resident, remembered by family and friends as a kind, generous, and loyal individual. He attended Scotlandville Magnet High School and was known for his quiet presence and willingness to help others.
His mother, Cynthia Williams, described her son as “stubborn and strong-willed” but with “the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever known. He loved fiercely. He forgave easily. He made me laugh when I wanted to cry.”
His father, Michael Williams Sr., shared a story that exemplified his son’s character: when Williams was 12, he insisted on buying a sandwich for a homeless man and sat with him as a friend. “That was Jarren. He saw people. He didn’t look past them. He saw them. And he cared,” his father said.
Williams also leaves behind his older brother, Michael Williams Jr., who remembered his brother as a best friend and confidante. “I don’t know how to be the older brother without a little brother to look up to me. But I’ll try. For him,” he said.
Motorcycle Enthusiast and Community Member
An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Williams purchased his first bike at 19 and was an active member of the local riding group Capital City Cruisers. Fellow rider Derek “D-Rock” Thompson described him as a safe and thoughtful rider who always looked out for others.
The Capital City Cruisers announced a memorial ride in Williams’ honor next Saturday, gathering at Independence Park and traveling to the site of the crash to pay respects. Thompson said, “We ride because he can’t. We ride to remind the world that he lived, that he mattered, that he was part of our family.”
Friends and community members remember Williams as someone who made everyone feel included. He organized gatherings, remembered birthdays, visited friends in hospitals, and always offered support during difficult times.
Ongoing Investigation
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash. A spokesperson, Deputy Marcus Turner, said, “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Williams. This is a tragic loss of a young life. We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine exactly what led to this collision. We ask for the public’s patience and for anyone with information to come forward.”
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
