Residents of KwaNyuswa near Hillcrest in KwaZulu-Natal are mourning the tragic death of young pharmacist and businesswoman Nomzila Madinane, who was reportedly shot and killed alongside her cashier and a security guard during a violent attack at her newly opened pharmacy.

According to reports, Madinane had opened Nomuzi Pharmacy less than a week before the deadly incident, hoping to help local residents access medication and healthcare services closer to home.

The fatal shooting happened outside Mnando Center in Nyuswa, where the pharmacy is located. Reports indicate that three armed men stormed the business and opened fire on those inside during what is believed to have been an armed robbery. Some reports have also linked the attack to alleged protection fee demands, although authorities have not officially confirmed a motive.

Madinane and her cashier were pronounced dead at the scene after suffering gunshot wounds.

A security guard who reportedly attempted to intervene during the attack was also shot. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment but later died from his injuries.


KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed the incident, stating that unknown armed suspects entered the pharmacy and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The shocking killings have sparked grief and outrage across the community, with many residents describing Madinane as a hardworking and determined young entrepreneur committed to improving healthcare access in KwaNyuswa.

Community members said the opening of Nomuzi Pharmacy had brought hope to many families in the area, particularly elderly residents and vulnerable households who often struggle with transportation costs and long travel distances to reach medical facilities in nearby towns.

Residents also described Madinane as someone passionate about serving her community and creating opportunities through her business.
