Shoppers Tackle Alejandro Alfonso Estrada Who Allegedly Fatally Shot Ex-Wife Amanda Frias Rosas and Her Husband Victor Frias Rosas in Las Vegas Grocery Store on Son's Birthday

Alejandro Alfonso Estrada is in custody after allegedly fatally shooting his ex-wife, Amanda Frias Rosas, and her husband, Victor Frias Rosas, inside a Smith’s grocery store on South Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. The tragedy unfolded Tuesday, May 12, as shoppers scrambled for cover during the attack.

The suspect, 43, reportedly targeted the couple amid ongoing custody disputes and child support issues. Court records indicate that Estrada owed more than $2,800 in child support as of November and had a hearing scheduled for June 1. The shooting occurred on the 12th birthday of the son he shared with Amanda, and just days before their daughter’s birthday. The children were not present during the shooting.

As the violence erupted, bystanders Merconie Clark and Darius Alston rushed to intervene. Clark described a physical struggle for the suspect's gun, later discovering a backpack containing additional weapons. Alongside a third bystander, the men successfully tackled and subdued Estrada until police arrived. Homicide Lt. Robert Price praised the group for their "tremendous courage."

Estrada is now facing two counts of open murder, seven counts of discharging a firearm in a prohibited area, one count of burglary while possessing a firearm, and one count of aggravated stalking. The Smith’s grocery store remained closed Wednesday, May 13, as the investigation continued, with parent company Kroger calling the event a "senseless act of violence." A GoFundMe has been established to support the family of Amanda Frias Rosas and help cover funeral expenses.
