A 24-year-old Richmond woman and recent Virginia Commonwealth University alumna was tragically killed early Sunday morning in a collision on Interstate 95. Virginia State Police have identified the victim as Tamara Eddy, who passed away following a crash involving a tractor-trailer in Stafford County.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 1:06 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, near the 146-mile marker on I-95 North. According to state troopers, Eddy was driving a Subaru when her vehicle struck the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The truck had come to a stop in the center lane due to a separate, unrelated crash that had occurred just ahead on the highway.
Tamara Eddy was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not report any injuries.
Eddy was a well-known member of the Richmond community, having recently graduated from VCU in 2025. During her time at the university, she was a dedicated biology student with a specialized research focus on bats, a passion highlighted in a recent VCU News profile. Outside of her academic pursuits, she was a familiar face in the Carytown neighborhood, where she previously worked at Ripple Ray’s restaurant.
The Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No further details regarding the initial unrelated crash or potential contributing factors have been released at this time.
