Zakaria Kariuki, his real name, died on Monday night at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital after a brief illness, as reported by fellow comedian and collaborator Kafengo.

"We are deeply saddened to share the unexpected passing of Zakaria Kariuki, known as Mr KK Mwenyewe. He died yesterday evening while receiving medical care at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital," Kafengo shared on Facebook.

"We kindly ask for your support and prayers during this difficult time. To his family and friends, may God provide us with strength in these trying moments. May his soul rest in peace."

Kariuki's comedic portrayals of the former DP earned him 1.1 million followers on TikTok and 412,000 on Facebook. His last skit on both platforms was uploaded on July 4.

His dry humor, often showcased in sketches, resonated with many Kenyans as he portrayed various relatable characters, from politicians to teachers and ordinary Kenyans.

Rising to fame in 2022, the Kisii University student gained attention after a funny skit that captured Gachagua's reaction to winning the general elections. He even altered his appearance to resemble Gachagua, wearing an oversized suit and exhibiting a potbelly. READ MORE

This success brought him several media appearances and grew his social media following, allowing him to branch out into impersonating others. He also received financial assistance from Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who settled his outstanding fees.

In the wake of his death, fellow comedians, fans, and even politicians expressed their grief on social media, with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah praising him as a comedian who utilized satire to reflect society, aiming not to divide but to enlighten, educate, and unify.

"Kenya has lost not just a comedian but a cultural commentator and a courageous young patriot. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire creative community," Omtatah remarked. READ MORE
