A tragic case of domestic violence unfolded in Donna, Texas on Wednesday afternoon when Saul Esquivel, 41, shot and killed his estranged wife, Nubia Bravo, 26, outside Neni’s Daycare, where she worked and served as the facility’s director, before turning the gun on himself.
According to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, the fatal shooting occurred around 3 p.m. at the daycare located along the 1200 block of Stites Road. Esquivel reportedly forced his way inside the building before confronting Bravo, who had been separated from him after discovering he was having an affair.
In an apparent effort to protect the children in her care, Bravo led Esquivel away from the daycare’s main room, attempting to run out the back door. Witnesses say Esquivel followed her outside, shot her, and then took his own life beside her.

Responding deputies from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find both Bravo and Esquivel deceased at the scene. Sheriff Guerra confirmed there were five children inside the daycare at the time, none of whom were physically injured — though officials believe they may have heard the gunfire.
“This tragic incident is a painful reminder of how dangerous domestic violence situations can be,” Sheriff Guerra said. “If you are in an abusive or unsafe situation, please reach out for help. There are available resources and people ready to help.”
The Hidalgo County Crime Victims Unit is now providing support to the daycare staff, the children, and their families following the devastating event.
Authorities confirmed the motive appears to be domestic in nature, citing the couple’s recent separation following Esquivel’s infidelity.
The city of Donna, where the murder-suicide occurred, is located roughly 240 miles south of San Antonio.
Officials continue to investigate the case while the community mourns the loss of Nubia Bravo, described by locals as a dedicated caregiver and loving mother who lost her life trying to protect the children under her watch.
