A Tennessee man, identified as Kyle Steven Crandel, 38, allegedly shot and killed two coworkers at Barku Plastics in Cleveland, Tennessee, before taking his own life after a six-hour police standoff, authorities confirmed.
The fatal workplace shooting occurred just before 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, when Crandel opened fire inside the Barku Plastics facility.
The victims were identified as Tobias Gleinig, a supervisor and production manager, and Ivan Aldergot, a vice president and five-year veteran at the company, according to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Both victims were German nationals employed at Barku Plastics, a subsidiary of the German manufacturer Barku Kunststofftechnik GmbH, which has been in operation since 1977. The Tennessee plant opened in 2003.
Following the double homicide, Crandel fled to a residence in Bradley County, where he barricaded himself inside. A SWAT team surrounded the home for over six hours before Crandel died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was located after a robot and drone entered the property, according to Local3News.
Investigators revealed that Crandel was in the process of being terminated from his job when the shooting occurred, as reported by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
In a statement, Barku Kunststofftechnik GmbH expressed heartbreak over the tragedy:
“We are all deeply affected by this senseless act. During this difficult time, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the families, friends, and colleagues of Ivan and Tobias. We remember them with respect and gratitude for everything they contributed to our team and our company.”
The exact motive for the shooting remains under investigation, though authorities confirmed Crandeln had bee slated to be fired.
