A Georgia babysitter has been charged with murder after her Rottweilers fatally mauled a two-year-old boy while she was asleep, leaving the child unattended for hours.

Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, of Valdosta, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children following the death of Kaimir Jones, according to Lowndes County Jail records.

Authorities said Cobb was running an unlicensed daycare at her home on the 3800 block of Pecan Drive when the tragedy occurred on October 4. Police and emergency responders arrived to find the toddler dead in the backyard, mauled by two Rottweilers.

“This is a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred,” said Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan. “Because of negligence on this offender’s behalf, a mother has tragically lost a child.”

Investigators determined that Cobb left Kaimir unattended while she took a two-hour nap. During that time, the child reportedly wandered into the backyard, opened a kennel, and was attacked by the dogs.

Georgia mom, Adrianna Jones and 2-year-old son, Kaimir Jones who was mauled to death by daycare owner’s Rottweiler dogs.
Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, said she had dropped her son off that morning at Cobb’s home, which had been “highly recommended.” In a GoFundMe post, she said she didn’t know Cobb owned Rottweilers and realized something was wrong after the babysitter failed to respond to her messages for several hours. When she arrived, police were already on the scene.

“This was a heartbreaking and traumatizing scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” Adrianna wrote. “I found my baby like this.”

Cobb told investigators she believed both she and the toddler were napping at the time of the incident. She was arrested and taken to the Lowndes County Jail. Animal control officers seized the two Rottweilers involved, along with a third dog from the home.
