Information reaching our desks indicates that a woman identified online as Lucy Martinez, reportedly a teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary School, has sparked outrage after a viral video appeared to show her mocking the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The video shows a woman making a gesture mimicking a gun by placing her hand at her neck, raising her thumb, and then lowering it while mouthing the word “bang.”
Social media users quickly linked the gesture to Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10, during one of his speaking events.
Charlie Kirk, 31, co-founded the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was known for his strong right-wing political views. His death prompted widespread reactions from political leaders across states such as Florida, Michigan, and Oklahoma, with some pushing for the construction of memorials in his honor.

In the wake of the viral video, social media users began calling for Lucy Martinez’s dismissal, alleging she worked at Nathan Hale Elementary School. Shortly afterward, the school’s website and X (Twitter) account were temporarily shut down, fueling speculation.
However, Schaumburg School District 54, which oversees Nathan Hale Elementary, issued a statement clarifying:
“We do not have an employee at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Schaumburg School District 54 with that name. We are not located in Chicago.”
The district reiterated multiple times that no staff member by the name Lucy Martinez was employed there.
Meanwhile, several Facebook users named Lucy Martinez have come forward to distance themselves from the controversy.
One wrote:
“There’s a teacher I guess named Lucy Martinez who made an ugly comment publicly and y’all are coming to my page saying crazy things. WRONG LUCY MARTINEZ.”
Another added:
“I am not a teacher nor made any public comments about whatever it is you guys are upset about. Please do your proper research and don’t comment on my page, especially the ugly things you guys are saying!”
Authorities and school officials have not released an official statement beyond denying her employment at the mentioned institution.
