Andrew Wolfe, a National Guard member from Inwood, West Virginia, has been identified as one of the two service members shot during an alleged ambush in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon. Wolfe remains in critical condition, according to a statement from his former high school.
Musselman High School posted on Facebook:
“Our Applemen community is deeply saddened to learn that Musselman High School alumnus, Andrew Wolfe, was one of the National Guardsmen injured in the shooting in Washington, D.C. today.”
Shooting Near Farragut West Metro Station
Authorities say the shooting occurred near the Farragut West Metro Station in Northwest D.C., just blocks from the White House. According to initial reports, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, allegedly opened fire on Wolfe and a female National Guard member during what officials have described as a “targeted” attack. Both Guardsmen were on patrol at the time.
Wolfe was rushed into surgery and remains in critical condition. The second Guardswoman—allegedly struck in the chest and head—has not yet been publicly identified and is also reported to be in critical condition.
Musselman High School added:
“Please keep Andrew, his family, and all those affected in your thoughts. We will share updates as we receive them.”
Parents Shared Pride Months Before Tragedy
Wolfe’s parents, Davida Davis Wolfe and Conner Wolfe, shared a post earlier this year on May 28 celebrating their son’s commitment to the U.S. National Guard Reserves:
“Today we dropped Andrew off at the armory to leave tomorrow for boot camp at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. We are so proud of Andrew for taking this step.
This was a super proud moment for us as his parents. Andrew, we love you and are so proud of you. Remember to stay strong in your beliefs and faith. God is always with you as you take on this journey.”
Suspect Also Hospitalized
The alleged gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, reportedly sustained four gunshot wounds after a third National Guard member arrived and confronted him. He remains hospitalized.
