Kaniya Durr, a 20-year-old sophomore at Lourdes University, tragically died in a three-vehicle crash near the S&G gas station at Sylvania Avenue and Holland Sylvania Road on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. Durr was traveling north in her sedan when she collided with a Ford Escape driven by a 60-year-old Toledo resident attempting a U-turn. Her vehicle then left the road, entered a gas station parking lot, and re-entered Sylvania Avenue, where it was struck by a minivan driven by a 41-year-old from Toledo.
No other fatalities or injuries were reported, and all drivers were wearing seatbelts. Authorities do not suspect impaired driving. The OSHP continues to investigate the cause and has asked anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.The Lourdes University community has mourned the loss of Durr. A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night at the university’s Franciscan Center, and Lourdes President Bisset extended condolences to her family and friends, describing the tragedy as “deeply saddening.”
Durr’s passing has left a profound impact on classmates, faculty, and the broader Toledo community.
