Desmond Ramaru, the organizer behind the widely followed “Help Mokoena” campaign, has moved to clarify circulating rumors about Mohammed Mokoena, emphasizing that reports claiming the boy has passed away have not been confirmed.
In an update shared with Vaal Journal, Ramaru confirmed that Mohammed — who has been battling a rare medical condition affecting his kidneys and feet — successfully underwent surgery after weeks of public fundraising and support.
Ramaru, who had previously promised Mohammed’s late mother that he would help care for her son, expressed relief following the operation.
“I feel relieved and so happy that I kept the promise,” he said.
The Help Mokoena campaign gained momentum through social media, with Facebook users and donors rallying together to raise funds for Mohammed’s medical care. The effort has been widely praised as an example of community-driven compassion and collective action.
With the surgery now complete, Ramaru said the focus will shift entirely to Mohammed’s recovery and long-term well-being.
“From now, we must just focus on the recovery of the boy,” he told Vaal Journal. “Then we’ll start planning on how to help him going forward in life.”
As of publication, no official confirmation has been made that Mohammed Mokoena has passed away, and supporters are being urged to rely on verified updates from the campaign and trusted sources.
