A man identified as Loc Mike was killed in a shooting in the Mitchell Heights neighborhood, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 1 p.m. on the 3300 block of Buchanan Avenue near Jackson Avenue. Upon arrival, investigators found a male victim inside a vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Crime Scene Observations
News crews on the scene reported that the victim’s vehicle was towed with the body still inside, as law enforcement from multiple agencies secured a large crime scene in the area.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or potential suspects.
Family Speaks Out
Family members of the victim expressed frustration with the limited information provided by police.
Sandra Hawthorne, Mike’s aunt, told reporters that her nephew was shot while sitting in his vehicle.
“Put your guns down. You don’t have to kill just because you’re jealous. Memphis is full of jealousy,” Hawthorne said. “The police are not saying anything. They will not let us down there to see our family or anything, and I don’t appreciate the Memphis Police Department for that. They get no points.”
Hawthorne described Loc Mike as a kind, quiet man and a devoted father of three children.
Suspect Description
Officials said the suspect’s vehicle is dark grey or silver, though no additional identifying information has been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact local law enforcement.
