Brittany Kritis-Garip, Missing Oyster Bay Woman Found Dead in Lloyd Harbor Weeks After Disappearance, Family Says ‘She Is Now at Peace’
The body of a woman found in the Long Island Sound earlier this week has been identified as 32-year-old Brittany Kritis-Garip, an Oyster Bay, New York resident who had been missing for several weeks, according to authorities.

The Suffolk County Police Department confirmed that Kritis-Garip was the individual recovered from the waters off Lloyd Harbor on Monday. Her disappearance had been reported on March 20 after she was last seen on foot in the Oyster Bay area.

Officials said the cause of death has not yet been determined, though investigators have stated the case is believed to be “non-criminal in nature.”

Kritis-Garip’s disappearance had prompted a multi-week search effort. She was last seen after she reportedly exited a family member’s vehicle, and was later reported missing after her phone was found discarded in a bush, according to previously reported details shared by family members.

Surveillance footage had last captured her in the Oyster Bay area the evening she went missing.

Her brother, Niko Kritis, confirmed her passing in a Facebook post following the discovery of her body, writing that the search for his sister had come to an end.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Brittany has been found and has passed,” he wrote. “We take comfort in knowing that God has called her into His care, and that she is now at peace.”

He described her as a loving and bright presence in the lives of those who knew her, adding that her “warmth, kindness, and spirit left a lasting mark” and would be remembered by family and friends.

Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding her death, but no foul play is currently suspected.
