Lacie Brown Says Husband Matthew Masse Has Schizophrenia as New Hampshire Police Search for Armed Suspect After Raymond Officer Shooting

New Hampshire authorities are searching for a man accused of shooting at law enforcement officers and injuring one in Raymond, N.H., while his wife says he struggles with mental health issues.

The New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) have identified the suspect as 38-year-old Matthew J. Masse. Residents are urged to shelter in place, remain vigilant, and call 911 if Masse is seen.

Authorities describe Masse as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 202 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. He is believed to be armed with a long gun and on foot.

A shelter-in-place order is currently in effect for parts of Ham and Nottingham Roads as law enforcement continues their search. Officials are advising all other residents to avoid the area.

Incident Details

Police responded just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday to reports that a man was shooting at his family members on Ham Road. When officers arrived, Masse reportedly fired at them, striking one officer.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, which authorities say are not life-threatening. Masse then fled the scene into a wooded area.

A perimeter has been established, covering the area bounded by Rt. 27 and Nottingham, Ham, Blake, and Raymond Roads. Police believe Masse could be several hours’ walk from the initial search area.

Authorities emphasized that Masse is armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information or who spots the suspect is asked to call 911 immediately. The Raymond Police Department is requesting that non-emergency calls be held to avoid overloading communication lines.

Family Statements

Masse’s wife, Lacie Brown, told reporters that her husband has schizophrenia. She described his mental health struggles as a factor in the incident, though details remain unclear.

Police are continuing their search and have scheduled a second press conference for 12:30 a.m. following their earlier update at 8:30 p.m.
