Four people were killed in a late-night crash in Pike County after a vehicle fleeing law enforcement left the roadway and struck a tree, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:57 p.m. on Friday, April 3, along Pike County Road 6628 near Pike County Road 6627, about nine miles east of Banks.
Authorities identified the driver as 27-year-old Tykevious D. Russaw of Eufaula. ALEA reported that Russaw was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers were also killed in the crash. Officials identified them as 27-year-old Robert D. Hall of Clayton, 24-year-old Quamay R. Richardson of Clayton, and a 17-year-old juvenile whose name has not been released.
According to investigators, both Russaw and Hall, along with the juvenile passenger, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected during the crash. Richardson was not ejected but also died at the scene.
ALEA stated that Russaw had been attempting to elude a state trooper prior to the crash, which ultimately led to the fatal collision.
